The effects are very good, but remember it's the early 80's, so they may not be up to what you expect nowadays. Ricardo Montalban is a great villain as Khan, also played him back in the 60's. Yes, he is a great villain and yes the effects surprised me in a very good way - some of them at least. I can't say I enjoyed Khan as much as I did Star Wars but I can honestly say that I enjoyed it a lot! Being a horror fan I relished the 'ear creatures' - pretty well done were those disgusting bastards! And another nice surprise: William Shatner is a cool actor!!! I thought he will be serious or something but he was wearing this ironic smile for most part of the movie! Oh, and the fist-fight he had? So gloriously clumsy and yet so much more realistic thanks to it! ...All would be much better without Czekov, though: this guy's 'Russian' accent was killing my ears! I want more Star Trek movies!

Well, you finally watched a STAR TREK movie and enjoyed it? I'm glad my recommendation didn't disappoint you. Well, you did start with what's considered one of the best in the movie series.
Czekov's accent is even more hilarious in Part 4, but first, go rent ST 3: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK. I think even more surprises await you. ;D

As I wrote before - Nemesis was the only Star Trek movie available for rental near me; then I found Khan hidden behind many copies of Attack Of The Clones on the shelf, but I'm afraid that's it. I'll check some more rental stores, but I think I'd remember those movies being there. Anyway - I'll be keeping you updated on this, and thanks for recommending Khan to me!

"I found Khan hidden behind many copies of Attack Of The Clones on the shelf"
Maybe the other STAR TREK movies are hidden behind THE PHANTOM MENACE. ;D

I can assure you that Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean Luc Piccard on the board of the Enterprise from the ST-NG is even much better. As to Czekov yes he is a bit or more than a bit artificial and clumsy playing his role.) Naturally I am biased in favour of the Next Generation. ;D

Saw The Search For Spock yesterday and... yes, I was a bit disappointed with it. The middle part was as good as anything in The Wrath Of Khan (I liked the idea of Kirk doing something illegal for a change and the Klingons are pretty cool as villains) but the beginning (the visit from Spock's father) and the finale (transferring minds... or whatever it was) were poor and too pompous for my taste. Also the idea of Kirk being more upset when Spock died than when his own son died - now, that was pretty sick, really! Nice surprises were Christopher Lloyd behind all the make-up and a young Miguel Ferrer with all the hair.
What do you think of this part, Heineken? And if you can answer, please tell me why the hell Chekov always looks like he's frightened to the bone?!

What do you think of this part, Heineken? And if you can answer, please tell me why the hell Chekov always looks like he's frightened to the bone?! First of all, cheers on seeing another one. I like Part 3, but it does fall victim to the "Only the even numbered STAR TREK movies are good" theory. But this one is the best of the odd numbered Treks, IMHO. As far as Kirk being more upset by Spock's death all I can say is, he probably knew Spock better than his own son. That's not to say Kirk wasn't upset by his son's death though. You get the impression that Kirk and his son didn't exactly bond or spend much time together. His death and Kirk's feelings about it, do come up again later in STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. Christopher Lloyd made a great klingon. Who knew?? No idea why Chekov looks like that. Overacting?? Make sure to see STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME next. This one is more of a light hearted adventure with some funny moments, but very good. Highly recommended.

I mentioned this SE 'cause what you can rent here in Poland are only the old editions of the Star Trek movies - with a trailer and not much else. Pity.

Well, you can always rent the bare bones and if you enjoy them that much, you can purchase the Special Editions.

From TrekToday:
Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Brent Spiner (Data) is reportedly set to make a series of guest appearances on Enterprise this season.
Spiner's TNG co-star Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) told fans at the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo yesterday that Spiner will appear in three episodes, according to a report submitted by TrekToday reader Jason Weingartner.
The actor, who will reportedly appear without make-up, won't be playing his most familiar character, the android Data, but the grandfather of Data's creator, Dr. Noonien Soong. Soong appeared in the fourth-season Next Generation episode, "Brothers", in which Spiner pulled triple-duty, playing Data, his brother Lore, and Soong.
Sirtis reportedly told fans Spiner's first episode will start shooting next month, with November sweeps the most likely air date. Production on Enterprise's fourth season is scheduled to begin this week, when the premiere episode, "Storm Front", goes before the cameras.
Discussing his plans for Enterprise's fourth season recently, executive producer Rick Berman said there was a possibility the show could feature "some actors, and possibly some characters, that are very familiar to our audience" (story).
Please note that this information has not been confirmed by Paramount Pictures or UPN and until such time you should treat it as you would any rumour from an unofficial source. Thanks to Jason for sending this in!

For the game-playing fans of Star Trek: Perpetual Entertainment announced that it has acquired the rights to a massively multiplayer online game based on the Star Trek universe, the GameSpot Web site reported. Under the agreement, the two-year-old, San Francisco-based company will develop and publish the online game for release in 2007, with public beta testing to begin in 2006, the site reported.
The game will be set during the 24th-century timeline of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, though other timelines could be added later through expansion packs. Players will be able to create characters of familiar races and go on solo and multiplayer missions involving characters, locales and situations from the Star Trek movies and television series, the company said.
Though Perpetual has released few specific details about the game, the company has posted a list of frequently asked questions and answers on the official Star Trek Web site.
