Why the hell not?! Yes, I know we already have the Steve King poll but Bachman is a different beast, isn't he?
To be honest, some of my favourite King's novels are Bachman's novels: The Long Walk, The Running Man (NOT like the movie!), Thinner or The Regulators - love'em all! The final pick will be The Long Walk, though: I have re-read it recently and it still has the power to haunt! Well, I guess the other books also preserved their powers but The Walk always felt the best to me... winning by a nose-hair, of course.

The Long Walk by far is the best. The first time I read it it creeped me out so I swore I wouldn't read it again. Haven't read it in a while...maybe I should. ;D

Road Work was my fav. I felt bad for the guy when he found out he was going to lose his house. Man, did he go out with a bang though.
Rage was decent. I liked the dialogue.
Running Man was a wild one.
Long Walk was cool too.

I remember starting to read Road Work but I don't think I ever finished it...don't know why.

I guess I'll have to drag it out again & finish it! I read yesterday that someone, can't remember who, is going to make a movie of "Everything You Love Will Be Carried Away" from Everything's Eventual. I guess it's going to be a short, b/c they said it will probably only be about 25 min. long. I'll have to see if I can find that article again...

Hmmm... it's probably not the best short story from this collection to be adapted. I'd love to see 'Lunch At The Gotham Cafe' or 'The Road Virus' or 'The Little Sisters Of Eluria' or 'In The Deathroom' - but this? As for Bachman's 'Road Work': I like it but it's very slow for early King standards. There's pay-off at the end, though, so it's a pity you didn't finish it, livingdeadgirl.

Yeah, those two (Lunch at Gotham Cafe & Road Virus) were two of my faves from the book along w/ Autopsy Room 4 & The Man in the Black Suit. Oh, I 'll get around to reading Road Work again, & finishing it, someday.

I voted for "The Long Walk". It's been years since I read them, but I seem to remember all those "Bachman Books" being pretty damn good. The movie version of THE RUNNING MAN was nothing like the book. The book was more like "1984".

That's true. The movie was a completely different story than the book. Maybe not as far from it as The Lawnmower Man is from its source short story, but still - finding more than two similarities wouldn't be easy.
And as for King's 'Everything's Eventual' collection: 'Autopsy Room Four' belongs to my favourites as well, but filming this is near impossible (it's about a guy who's waking up just before his autopsy; and he can't move a muscle!)... I mean, it is possible but would either end up very different from the story or just crap.

Very much so, yeah. And a great opener to 'Everything's Eventual'. I wonder whether King really chose the order of his stories there at random? (he says so in the foreword) ...If he did - it was a lucky shuffle!

Yeah, that's true! Speaking of King stories made into movies...have you seen Secret Window, that new one w/ Johnny Depp? It didn't play long here & I didn't get a chance to see it. I was wondering if it was any good or not. I guess I'll cathc it when when the DVD comes out.

I have read the story (well, a novella, really)some time ago and it's a good one. But I'm hearing the movie doesn't deliver the goods, unfortunately.

I also read the story & really liked it. I just didn't know if the movie would be worth watching, esp. to a King obsessee.
