An easy question, I guess? No, it's not, of course. I would gladly vote for Peter Straub 'cause he never wrote a weak book and his best are pure dread, but... you know about me and King, right? The guy may have had his ups and now downs but no one has given me so many pages of terror! And before you start complaining I should go for quality instead of quantity - it's not like that at all; King's best books (and there's so many of them) can compete with Straub's no problem! Choosing Steve, then.

Well, his name is KING, isn't it?? As in, King of the Horror Writers, right? Seriously though, I don't read much Fiction, so King has to win by default. I've read almost everything by him, but only two by Clive Barker and nothing by any of the others. True, that sometimes it seems King's "quality" books would number higher if there didn't seem to be a new one on the shelves every couple of months, but he does have many that are actually really good compared to the ones that start out well and end up as drivel.

I can't say I didn't expect this choice of yours, Heineken Out of curiosity: which Barker's books have you read?

Out of curiosity: which Barker's books have you read? "THE INHUMAN CONDITION" for sure, and one other. It's been so long since I read it that now I can't remember if it was "IN THE FLESH" or "THE BOOKS OF BLOOD". "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."

Hah hah, yeah ;D I haven't read the two you've mentioned and from the first volume of Books Of Blood I don't remember much, so I can't throw a ton of questions at you as I initially intended

Can I vote for three? King of course, Barker & Dean Koontz. I'm almost loving Koontz as much as King now. I just finished reading "False Memory" by Koontz & really enjoyed it. Not really the supernatural stuff that he usually writes, but really suspenseful. I've also read "Inhuman Condition" & "In The Flesh" by Barker..along w/ the others I named in the Barker thread. I believe "In The Flesh" is the one he based the "Hellraiser" movies on...some of my fave movies.

Voting for three, you say? Uh, sure - just have to register under three different names and voila! But I'm joking, of course You should not do the above. Think of a way to choose just one. I mean, if you really love all of them equally - just choose the author who's got the best haircut or something (but you know Koontz will lose if you decide to use the haircut factor, right?).
