David Fincher has only been making features for a little over ten years, but has certainly become one of the industry's most respected directors. He worked for ILM for about two years and left to direct TV commercials (Nike, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Levi's, Heineken ;D , etc.) and music videos (Madonna, Sting, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, George Michael, Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, etc.) before taking the plunge into movies. His first was the misunderstood and underrated ALIEN 3 for which he became kind of a scapegoat when it failed to do the box office of the first two films in the series. I'm picking SE7EN. Good performances by Brad Pitt, the always reliable Morgan Freeman and a creepy Kevin Spacey before he was a "star". And one of the more twisted endings I've ever seen in a mainstream movie. Not to mention the disgusting tortured remains from one victim to the next and the very cool opening credits. Very atmospheric movie. But if you asked me what my favorite is tomorrow, it might be FIGHT CLUB.

Let's not talk about my choice...

Let's not talk about my choice... Well, that is the first rule of... your choice.

I picked Seven b/c it's well, just brilliant imo anyway & one of my faves. Plus it's the movie that got me hooked on Spacey so what can I say. Fight Club is a very close second.

It's a hard choice again with Fincher: probably only Alien 3 is a movie I consider being at one level lower than the others of his (but still very good, by the way); Se7en was a shock when I first saw it: not only because of the dark subject matter, but also because of so much movie taking place in almost pitch black... or was it just the copy at my theatre? (when I then saw it again on tape it wasn't as black as I remembered); and Kevin Spacey did a hell of a job there! But I also loved The Game, and this could be my second choice as easily as Se7en. Panic Room is a suspensful piece of cinema, too, and though it never hit me as much as Club or 7 or Game - I just can't think of it as 'another good thriller', it's much much more.

I picked Fight Club. Yes, I just broke the first rule. I'm a rebel. One of the few movies that actually kept me guessing until the very end.
I really like what Fincher does with the opening credits, pretty bizarre and unique.

Fight Club here, too. I want to read the book though, Chuck Palahniuk is a genius.

I have this book somewhere on the shelf but haven't started reading it yet... So you say he's a genius, Smitty? What other books of his would you recommend?

Extremely tough choice. I would have to pick The Game. It was so twisted, I absolutely adore it. Seven was amazing and one of my fav. movies. Spacey was incredible. Fight Club, yeah terrific.
I didn't like Panic Room it was too, I don't know, normal for a Fincher flick.
Alien 3 just didn't do it for me.

Yes, The Game - a very good choice! As I said earlier - it might be my #2 choice.
But wait - someone else voted for The Game, too! Can we know who? Please? Just a name?

Choke is also excellent, although a bit disturbing. I hear Survivor is pretty good, too, but I haven't read it yet.

Wow. Thread about the great David Fincher is last in the list Now,no more ;D He's a rarity now, cause he does not produce his flicks like a butter or buns. He made comparatively few flicks but they were great. The Game, Se7en, Fight Club these are flicks which bring the fresh ideas, each is original and surprises the viewer with unordinary plots and scenes. That's the kind of cinema I would love to see much more often. The only exception to rule is Alien 3 which is the worst in the saga and just plainly sucks. Naturally, compared with AVP it is an extraordinary masterpiece, but who in the hell might even think for a second that such a crap (real crap seems likeable and even emitting fragrance in comparison ;D) might belong to my favourite spectacular sci-fi saga It is really a toughest choice cause I deeply believe all these 3 flicks are equally excellent. But I won't be a chicken and I'll choose...the winner is... you might guess easily The Fight Club (standing ovation in background ;D) Oh, I haven't seen Panic Room is it as good as the other trio I talked about?

Great revival spacer!
I chose 'Se7en' but I enjoy all his other work. Her certainly has a knack for building tension.
