LETHAL WEAPON (1987)
My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.
HIGH FIDELITY (2000)
John Cusack is Rob Gordon, a record store owner who argues about music with his employees (Todd Louiso and Jack Black), makes Top 5 lists about everything and contemplates his past girlfriends, as his latest relationship is going down in flames. Cusack is always good and the two guys that work for him are hilarious. Jack Black, playing, well, the typical Jack Black character, (the loudmouth rocker dude) steals every scene he's in.
7.5/10
WONDER BOYS (2000)
Michael Douglas gives one of his best performances as a pot-smoking professor/writer who's been working on the same book for seven years, and is dealing with his literary agent (Robert Downey Jr.), a pregnant mistress (Frances McDormand), a student (Toby Maguire) who might overshadow his writing career, a female student (Katie Holmes) who has a crush on him, a stolen jacket once belonging to Marilyn Monroe and a dead dog. There's a lot going on in this movie, and even though most of it holds together pretty well, I found it a little slow at times.
7/10

Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS-An absolute classic, dirty, sleazy, disgusting, disturbing and a pain to sit through, though not all that bad nonethless. www.imdb.com/title/tt0071650/usercomments-59Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks-Just as much fun as the original, a little tamer though still sleazy and dirty when required. www.imdb.com/title/tt0074670/usercomments-19Ilsa, The Tigress of Siberia-Started off brilliantly as a retread of the original then switches over into something else entirely. www.imdb.com/title/tt0078398/usercomments-17Images in a Convent-Joe D'Amato does Nunsploitation, do I really have to say anything? www.imdb.com/title/tt0165325/usercomments-9Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay-Works as a wonderful mix of Gothic Horror and Sexploitation, though hampered by a lethargic pace. www.imdb.com/title/tt0206154/usercomments-14Cube-Nothing of real interest since the film is built around them trying to get around the traps instead of succumbing to them. www.imdb.com/title/tt0123755/usercomments-638Nomads-Not a whole lot to like about it, since it's flaws are too severe and numerous to wipe out the few positive points it earns. www.imdb.com/title/tt0091647/usercomments-28The Marsh-An fun and absolutely enjoyable haunted house story that delivers far more often than it fails. www.imdb.com/title/tt0496350/usercomments-28Fear of the Dark-Gets annoying and irritating when it's getting started, but once it does, it's actually a ton of fun. www.imdb.com/title/tt0308252/usercomments-45

Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008, Raja Gosnell)
Not as bad as one might expect. I found myself enjoying this cute little movie. I think more people would enjoy it if it were animated, but I liked the cinematography. I'd liken it to a live-action Oliver & Company, if you were into that movie. 7/10
And while at work I caught 10 minutes of David Zucker's latest satire An American Carol. In an era when satire seems to be sucked dry of any kind of humor altogether, you'd expect David Zucker, the master of the genre, to show these hacks how it's done. Sadly, this is not the case. Instead of taking the opportunity to be funny, Zucker instead used it to bash liberals. Four years ago, I would have supported a movie that puts down on Michael Moore, because four years ago he was kind of a douche. I think a few years of silence and the movie Sicko redeemed him, however. So this movie isn't even relevant. Just some crappy pro-Bush propaganda that tells us our colleges are filled with hippie potsmoking professors who fill our brains with "nonsense" such as "Bush is a hack" (in the form of some weird musical number). Sorry, Zucker. You fail at comedy, and you fail at making a political point. Go back to the drawing board.

Ticks-An absolute blast, gory, action-packed, tense, suspenseful, impressive special effects and a ton of fun, great times. www.imdb.com/title/tt0108339/usercomments-43The Hive-This really works as a fun, enjoyable killer ant film until it drops an unnecessary, completely unneeded twist at the end which totally deflates the whole thing. www.imdb.com/title/tt1062161/usercomments-14Black Swarm-Much better than expected killer wasp entry that gets some really good points out amongst a couple of flaws. www.imdb.com/title/tt1090189/usercomments-9Webs-Fun spider creature feature relies solely on the attributes brought on from the war that the whole film uses nicely. www.imdb.com/title/tt0346136/usercomments-20Stephen King's Graveyard Shift-Another one in a long line, which is pretty much all of them, of mediocre Stephen King works. www.imdb.com/title/tt0099697/usercomments-62Blood Beach-Dull, boring creature feature that doesn't have a whole lot to it that even has anything worthwhile about it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0082083/usercomments-36

SHINE (1996)
The true story of pianist David Helfgott (Geoffrey Rush), an Australian child prodigy who grew up being mentally, and sometimes physically, abused by his father. He finally left to study music overseas where he suffered a breakdown and ended up in a mental institution. So-so movie, but great performances by Rush and Armin Mueller-Stahl as his father.
6/10

THE PRESTIGE (2006)
Batman and Wolverine play bitter rival magicians in turn of the century London, one-upping each other's tricks and trying to figure out the other's secrets. Good performances, sets and costumes, but I found the story pretty convoluted and more than a little far-fetched.
5/10
