I recently saw Tropic Thunder, and I thought it was pretty good. Not as funny as Step Brothers but funnier than Pineapple Express. The release date was perfect because it gives audience one last laugh to end summer with. I was glad to see that it was truely an ensemble film, with no one person really getting the edge screentime wise, and everybody heartily contributing. You'll be quoting this one. B.

THE REAPING (2007)
A former Catholic missionary (Hilary Swank) who has lost her faith in God, and now debunks religious phenomena, goes to a small southern town to investigate a river that has turned to blood after the death of a boy. Soon after her arrival, a series of events follows that appear to represent the ten biblical plagues. The plagues are done pretty well, and creepy, especially the locusts, but the movie feels kind of like rehashed THE OMEN or one of many other religious thrillers. I didn't think it was as bad as many critics claimed, but I also didn't think it was anything really special either.
5.5/10

I liked it more than you did, as I felt the same way: much better than what was being said about it.

I've been getting into my Halloween mood early this year and have been watching horror films:
CHUD Phantasm The Wicker Man (original--I'd forgotten how much singing was in there, like it was a musical!) Beyond the Reanimator The Blob (88) Piranha Night of the Living Dead (1968) which my son said he wanted to watch. So we watched it while he was feeling ill with a temperature. He said he liked it and didn't have any nightmares that night.

The Mangler-A couple good moments here and there, usually involving the machine, but too dull and stupid for me to care more. www.imdb.com/title/tt0113762/usercomments-79The Mangler 2-Actually a lot of fun, especially when it gets going towards the end, it's just torture to get to that point. www.imdb.com/title/tt0260162/usercomments-66The Mangler Reborn-An absolute steaming pile of boredom punctuated only by the creepy atmosphere and a few bloody kills. www.imdb.com/title/tt0449066/usercomments-31Transmutations-I so wanted to like this one, but when only 20 minutes out of 100 are good, not a likely chance. www.imdb.com/title/tt0090233/usercomments-9Tale of the Mummy-Pretty decent when it gets to it's good parts, mangled only by a few nonsensical moments. www.imdb.com/title/tt0127919/usercomments-67Demon of Paradise-Cheesy, low-budget goodness the way I like it, if only it were gorier, or even just gory to begin with. www.imdb.com/title/tt0092870/usercomments-12Demonoid: Messenger of Death-I was surprised, much better than expected and actually got interesting every now and then. www.imdb.com/title/tt0082257/usercomments-12
