Runner-up: Julia Roberts in Charlotte’s Web – Julia Roberts brought to life the beloved spider, and makes it very difficult not to cry towards the end.

WINNER: Robin Williams in Happy Feet – Robin Williams is the master of voice acting. Ever since Aladdin, any animated film he has shown up in, he left us a memorable character. In Happy feet, he left us a couple of memorable characters.

Most Underrated

Runner-up: The Black Dahlia – Universally panned, but I seriously cannot see what is so bad about Brian De Palma’s film noir. Really, I can’t.

WINNER:

All the King's Men

This film was not by any means a great film, but to receive such a low score from the critics is just plain lunacy. It has a 10% on the tomatometer. 10%. That’s like Gigli. And All the King’s Men is sufficiently better than Gigli. It was a good movie, actually. It gets a bad reputation for being a remake, but it’s not nearly as bad as the critics made it out to be.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Runner-up: Jack Nicholson for The Departed – Jack does it again! After all these years, the man’s still got it. He will put on a great performance and give you a character you won’t soon forget.

WINNER:

Eddie Murphy for Dreamgirls - Eddie Murphy surprised everyone. After such duds as Pluto Nash and the Haunted Mansion, Eddie Murphy puts aside the comedic angle, and shows that he can be a dramatic actor. And he did it so well, I believe he earned this award… even if he followed this up with Norbit.

Runner-up: Cars – When Disney and Pixar join together, there’s always greatness. Every single film they have made together are among the greatest animated films of all time, and Cars is no different. Cars only suffers from being inferior to the Incredibles, but it is still a memorable, funny movie that only Disney and Pixar could come up with.

WINNER:

Happy Feet – March of the Penguins with a beat. This was a very unique, funny movie about an outcast willing to go out and prove himself. It gets just a little preachy at the end, but who cares when the movie is just so good?

Best Screenplay - Adapted

William Monahan for The Departed – William Monahan wrote the best screenplay to ever be adapted from a foreign film. Maybe Infernal Affairs came first, but The Departed was great in its own right.

David Arata, Alfonso Cuaron, Mark Fergus, Hawk Otsby and Timothy J. Sexton for Children of Men – One can only imagine what this screenplay looked like. In a few years, screenwriting classes will use this screenplay as an example of how it’s done… because Alfonso Cuaron KNOWS how it’s done.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – The most visually impressive movie I have ever seen. The CGI looked real, and the realization of Davey Jones – I have seen the movie several times and still cannot find where the make-up meets the CGI. Good stuff, here. Good stuff.

Apocalypto – USA (Mayan) – Mel Gibson may be one of those guys who really shouldn’t drink and talk, but he’s got some fine artistic vision. He brought us into a world we rarely see or hear about. And as bloody as it was, its pacing, cinematography and action made it a great film.

WINNER:

Letters from Iwo Jima – USA (Japanese) – An unbiased look at the battle of Iwo Jima. A perspective we’re never given, complete with flawless cinematography, editing and screenwriting.
