E3 is roughly a month away.
For those that don't know, E3 is when gamers begin salivating for any new news, games, and drama in the world of video games.
This year will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, most impressive, most anticipated E3.... probably ever.
The Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Revolution (which is what I'm looking forward to) will be unveiled and have most all their final secrets revealed.
Will the PS3 be packaged with it's harddrive?
Will the Revolution actually revolutionize games?
Will the Revolution have a harddrive of it's own?
Will the PS3 cost more than $600?
Will the Rev cost less than $200?
How many launch titles will each one have?
Will Sony explain what all those countless ports are for?
Will the PSP have the ability to connect to the PS3?
Will the DS have the ability to connect to the Rev?
Will Nintendo show the "standard controller" shell?
What will each company reveal as their full online plans?
What is the Revolution's final secret?
What will Sony's final controller look like?
Will Microsoft have anything of any interest at all?
What is known:
So far, images and gameplay of one Revolution game have been revealed: Red Steel. A first-person game where you use guns and swords to blast and hack your way physically through people which has already garnered intense praise online and will appear in the new Game Informer magazine.
The PS3 is backwards compatible to the Playstation 1 and the PS2.
The Revolution's "Virtual Console" will feature games from the NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and TurboGrafix16, as well as original content. The system is backwards-compatible to the GameCube.
Launch games for both systems will finally be revealed.
The Speculation:
The Rev has two USB ports, one of which can be used, theoretically on whatever third-party external hard drive you want. This is a stark contrast to the $100 60-GB Harddrive that is manufactered by Microsoft and required for most X360 use.
The PS3's online structure is theorized to be a modified (improved) version of that on the Xbox360.
Sony claims to target a global launch of the PS3, but early speculation has cast doubts on whether or not such a thing will happen.
Nintendo has stated that it no longer may be able to do a global launch. Japan and North America will receive the Rev simultaneously, but Europe may have to wait a couple months.
The PS3 is theorized to be region-free.
Sony will be expecting to sell the PS3 on the merits of it's raw horsepower, online structure, and High Def capabilities.
Nintendo is expected to sell the Revolution based on creative, ingenuitive games, free online play, and countless "classic" titles available for download as well as affordability and their new plan to target gamers as well as non-gamers.
Sony is rumored to target the lifespan of the PS3 at a whopping 10 years (the original Game Boy being the only other system to ever last more than a decade) opting to go with a console that is "upgradable" like your computer. If this sounds familiar, Nintendo also had an "upgradable"system--the N64. The PS3 is expected to be more versatile, however.
Information on Sony's Blu-Ray disks will be revealed.
Microsoft may reveal their own kind of awkward portable video game system.
A few more Revolution games have news spreading onto the net right now, including one called "Sadness" which is described as being, as I understand it, a combination of noir and horror--and entirely black and white. The game revolves around some mental disorders and requires you to defend yourself with objects around you--stuff like sticks and broken glass. One early statement mentions "manually cutting someone's throat with broken glass" as an example. It takes place either before WWI or WWII.
