Hey, people. I thought it would be nice if we could all bitch about watching our favorite movies cut up to show on cable TV (read Sci-Fi Channel, TBS, or even AMC etc.) I mean, who hasn't seen a favorite movie there, and they cut up your favorite moment (gore/kill scene/overt language/sex scene) to make it more suitable for broadcast. I'd love to read your stories. Hey, Q, I've got one for you. It's about The Thing on TNT a few weeks ago. Besides being cut to fit an 1:55 minute time slot (!) one of the greatest disasters was the scene where McCready has them tied down and goes about with the test. The scene goes where he puts the needle to the blood and it pops up, giving us that scare, then it cuts to the alien jumping up to the ceiling, everybody's yelling to get away, then they cut in the scene where the other people are on the bench squirming to get away, then a quick cut of the flamethrower starting up, then suddenly the bodies in flames. That was sacrilege to me.
Anyone else with stories like that? Q, post me a book.

Hellraiser.
I didn't watch all of it. But I saw two things cut:
1) The part where the hooks go into Frank's body. 2) The picture of Frank having anal sex.

That was when she was sucking on his finger in the attic, right?

Now I remember. I was just thinking of the finger sucking, and thought that one would be a scene to cut out. Yeah, that would be a scene to cut out. Any one else with stories like this?

I watched roughly 38 seconds of The Fly (Croney's) and only needed "fuck" to be edited out once for me to change the channel in disgust. I watched no more.
Can't rightly think of the last time I actually did see a whole movie all butchered and cut up on TV. I think the only ones I actually sat through were Ghostbusters (recorded by my Mom off TV when I was a kid) and Shawshank Redemption once for some reason.
They even found stuff in Ghostbusters to cut up! For years, the only version I'd seen was the copy my Mom made from CBS or something! I didn't know until I bought the DVD last year that they called Walter Peck "Dickless!!"

Hey, it can make some movies entertaining. Or even MORE entertaining. Like Die Hard. It's just laughs at that movie, especially at the bad dubbing. Oh my God.
But yes, edited movies on TV are horrible. Which is why I miss TCM.

Thanks God on Polish TV movies are not butchered like this. I believe this a US/Canada, especially US phenomenon to be more and more politically correct. In Poland the flicks are just rated by sex and violence and given the colour sign and lowest limit of age in the corner of the screen. I think this is the best solution to make content those who are worried about unsuitable flick content and not to ruin it. But you know once I saw the broadcast live from US from some awards festival and there was presented a famous Video clip of Aerosmith with an ending with SCRAMBLED 'fuck off' sign. At first we looked at the screen in disbelief and complete awe but shortly after I roared with my family at the thing. We just rolled on the floor. ;D We don't practice so far such atrocities.

That's America for you. Everybody wants the government to stay out of their personal business, but simultaneously demand the government make sure all media is kid-friendly, thus wanting the government to censor television, while at the same time being against censorship. No wonder Bush gets confused. People want to be safe during the hurricaine, but don't want to leave their homes, then they want to be saved but shoot at the rescuers and run around looting. We let our criminals out of prison without making them safe for public use, then complain when they kill/molest again. Might as well call it "Contradictionland." The worst, I thought, was when everyone denounced Bush for going to war, but was willing to support Kerry who wanted to reinstate the draft and "go-it-alone" in Iran and North Korea. Talk about confusing--are they against war or for it? Guess it all depends on who's sending our soldiers off to fight... America!

My most recent example is the movie Warlock, which was airing on Sci-Fi latenight. One second you see evil Warlock lunging for guy making breakfast, CUT, suddenly Warlock has two eye ball in his hands. WTF!?! My husband and I turned it off and rented it instead.
