The Grudge (October 22nd, 2004)
My God, was this disappointing. A Hollywood studio slaps Sam Raimi's name on a horror movie, it's only fair to expect the Evil Dead... not the Ring Lite.
Yes, this was a failure. I'm not putting it on Must MISS 2004, even though I was really pissed off when I walked out of the theater, because the movie has its moments of creepiness.
But I like my movies to have a coherent story, Horror or not. The Grudge had none. It made absolutely no sense, and had plot holes large enough to drag a horse and carriage through.
It was nice eyeballing Sarah Michelle Gellar a couple hours though, but let's face it. She's no Naomi Watts, and this was not the Ring.
As I said before, moments of creepiness save this from being a total failure, but try to shoot for a matinee price... Or wait for the DVD release and rent it.

Alfie (November 5th, 2004)
I've seen the movie, I spent some time thinking about it, and I still can't decide whether I like it or hate it. I had trouble staying awake while watching the movie, but I was also very tired all day yesterday. What I did notice, the film DID have its moments. There were some funny moments, emotional moments, etc. But God, did it drag. I kept glancing at my watch wondering how much longer the movie was going to last.
Jude Law, you are totally burning yourself out. Slow down, dude. Go on vacation.

Jude Law, you are totally burning yourself out. Slow down, dude. Go on vacation. I am quickly getting pretty tired of Jude Law. He seems to be popping up in way too many movies. How about hiring someone else for a role? And it's not like the guy is even guaranteed box office gold. In 2004 he has appeared in: I Heart Huckabees (Flop) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Flop) Alfie (Flop) And still to come in 2004, he has: Closer Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Voice only) The Aviator Talk about your overexposure. Hey Jude, (No pun intended) I got two words for you: Matthew McConaughey! Remember when he was Hollywood's "IT" boy just a few years ago? Like Smitty said, "Go on vacation!"

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Flop) That was no flop by far (Oh, I'm going to a pre-screening of National Treasure tonight)

Re: SKY CAPTAIN & THE WORLD OF TOMORROW Budget: $40,000,000 (estimated) (Which is not a huge budget for a star studded Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie.) Opening Weekend (USA) September 19, 2004: $15,580,278 (Far below expectations as it didn't even open in first place as was expected.) Gross (USA) As of October 31, 2004: $37,226,427 After a month and a half it hadn't even made back it's budget in the USA. Explain to me how it was a hit. Of course, that's not counting foreign gross & future video sales, but by all accounts the movie flopped. This doesn't mean I hated the movie, see the thread regarding it, I'm just pointing out that Jude Law gets too much work for a guy who is supposed to be this huge star, but whose movies keep "underperforming".

Damn... I though National Treasure was GREAT!!!!!!! The audience was mostly adults and they really, really, REALLY enjoyed. The were laughing a lot. (Intentionally.)

Seed of Chucky (November 12th, 2004)
Let me start by saying I enjoyed the movie, but can only recommend it to people who
1. liked Bride of Chucky, and
2. are willing to not take a movie seriously.
This movie was not meant to be analyzed. Just sit down and have fun with it. Remember, this IS a comedy.

Remember when this franchise started out as HORROR? Sure it had a couple of one-liners, but it wasn't considered a Comedy by anyone. It seems that in modern Horror the sequels get funnier & funnier instead of scarier & scarier. Really, does everything have to be like SCREAM? Thanks for the warning. I'll pass.

Yeah, as I recall, the first three were categorized as Horror flicks. Then Bride of Chucky came along and completely changed the genre.
