LOL....I think you're right Bart. If I had even the smallest, remotest, tiniest chance w/ say, Vin or Mr. Madsen, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be half as good as I imagined it would be.

I'm going to go see the Clearing tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what I think.
Never DID give you my review on "Other" yet, did I?
Spider-man 2: With Great Power Comes the Great Sam Raimi
PLOT - 10/10 A tale of love, friendship, betrayal, redemption, sacrifice, choice, and destiny. What's not to like?
ACTING - 6/10 It's hokey. I have seen each and every one of these actors do better. Alfred Molina and J.K. Simmons seemed to be the only ones taking this one seriously. Not that it was BAD or anything, just nothing spectacular.
SCREENWRITING - 8/10 A nice mixture of dark and campy; all the elements I was looking for were delivered. Some of the dialogue, however, was pretty shaky.
DIRECTION - 10/10 This looks more like a Sam Raimi movie than the first one did. Sam Raimi rules!
VISUALS - 10/10 EXCELLENT CGI! From Spider-man swinging around the city to Doc Ock's mechanical arms, this one delivers the visual goods. Not to mention some nice costumes and beautiful cinematography.
MUSIC - 10/10 Danny Elfman. 'Nuff said... Oh, wait. The song "Ordinary" by Train is AWESOME!
OVERALL What I like about the Spider-man movies is that even though they're campy, they manage to be like Tragos (or for those not familiar with the theatrical term, Greek tragedies). All the elements are there. It's comedic at times, no doubt, but in the end, it's about a man whose destiny keeps him from the life he wants. Even though the ending somewhat drowns out this feeling, it's there, and knowing Sam Raimi, it will probably still be there in the next movie. Spider-man 2 lived up to its hype. Excellent work, Mr. Raimi.
THE SMITTY APPROVES. (9/10)

Just saw the Clearing...
The Clearing: Mo' Like THE BORING.
PLOT - 7/10 A grown man gets kidnapped, and his family wants him back. The plot calls for a good human drama.
ACTING - 5/10 I suppose it was alright, but it doesn't save the movie. Helen Mirren's talent went on and off, and there were times I wondered if she even cared her husband was kidnapped. I'm also disappointed with Redford and Dafoe, who are usually much better than this.
SCREENWRITING - 2/10 BOO. Seriously, anyone who considered Gigli a train wreck would do best to avoid this movie. I almost fell asleep; an older lady in the audience fell asleep several times behind me. Oh, and certain elements made no sense whatsoever.
DIRECTION - 4/10 Meh.
VISUALS - 2/10 There was a lot of potential here, but it wasn't used. Cinematography was AWFUL. Locations were nice, but very poorly transferred... not to mention the scariest first ten minutes I've ever seen on film. No, Helen Mirren, we do NOT want to see you in a swim suit.
MUSIC - 2/10 Tying in with visuals, this had the look and feel of a MADE-FOR-TV movie... on Lifetime.
OVERALL This is proof that "Independent" and "Limited release" don't always mean good. I am extremely disappointed with how boring this thing was. I'm having trouble staying awake now. Maybe someone else will like this more than I did, but it's not likely. My friend didn't really like it, either.
"Enough" with Jennifer Lopez was better than this.
THE SMITTY DOES NOT APPROVE. (3.6/10)

I'm surprised, really. Especially with the visuals being so poor.
