Okay, why is it so hard for you guys to accept that I don't like "Forrest Gump?" It's nothing against the movie, I just don't like it. We've all seen those movies, this one is mine. Speaking for me personally, it's not that you don't like the movie, you wouldn't be the first, and to each his own. It's more your "it's too unbelievable" reason for not liking it that I don't get. But mainly because it's coming from you. Let's face it, and I think you'd be the first to admit, you do have a hard on for horror movies. Movies that mostly require a total suspension of disbelief. I figure anyone who has no problem accepting the car in CHRISTINE has a mind of it's own or that the dead are walking the earth and eating the living, surely should have no problem believing that a fictional character can meet presidents and go to Vietnam, etc. The movie's a fairy tale and I guess it annoys you that it doesn't follow "real life" rules. Just weird. "And that's all I have to say about that."

Well, Heiney, I think you could be right. With the horror genre, I know there is no way in hell that could ever happen and I enjoy them because of that. With this one, I think it's the way that it presents history. I am a history buff, so I know that these events did happen a certain way, and this film changes them just so it can have a story. That may be my problem with it: I know what happened in real life and this one changes it just so it can give a story. I said I liked it up until the Watergate scene, but after that I thought "This is just too ridiculous" and turned it off. And you are right with the horror hard-on phrase.

You're a history buff, too?
How many hours a week do you devote to the History Channel?
For me, I try for at least one a day, but the wife is often extremely irritated when I watch "yet another fucking show about Jesus or UFO's."

You watch "UFO Files?" I love that show. Really entertaining and some great stories in there. I also love Digging for the Truth, another pretty fascinating show. I tune into Tales of the Gun every now and then, and I've caught a few Mail Calls here and there.
I generally spend about three-four hours a week there, it's all good stuff.

I try to watch the UFO Files, but like I said, the wife gets really agitated at that. "God, you've seen all these fucking shows a million times!" she says. Oh she's crazy. Women.
Typically, I'm a fan of History's Mysteries. I'm glutton for the unexplained and bizarre moments throughout time.
Digging for the Truth is a good show, but something about the host bugs me. I'm not sure what, but occasionally, I furrow my brow (like Hayden Christenson) at the television at that guy. Like, he's only half likable. The show about the Ark of the Covenant was cool.

Histories Mysteries is pretty good, I've seen it once or twice. I've never really had a problem with the host, I've seen far better shows have worse hosts. Sometimes I do wish he'd shut up and let us look at what's going on, but I get like that every now and then.

Histories Mysteries is a good show. Famous Murders is a good one too.

I've been trying to get my VCR to record that Famous Murders show, but it won't ever record it for me. I've heard it was pretty good, but I'd like to know for sure.

Famous Murders is really interesting, but I don't especially like the way the show is put together. It really feels like an ancient High School educational film sometimes.
There's a new show, Decoding the Past on History that's just awesome. That show about Cults was great.

Okay, Q, I'll have to take a look at it. Sounds interesting. I'll let you know what I think about Famous Murders when I finally see it. ;D

Heiney forced you to tell the truth ;D Arguments concerning history buff are much much more understandable than your previous ones about that Gump couldn't do this or that. Each fictional character does things which are not happening to us mostly. And that's like we want to watch it! How often do you see actors locking their cars? Why they're not stolen each time they are left unattended? Why the car goes still straight when the driver is kissing the girl on the next seat? You dislike Gump not because the plot is improbable but because the plot tampers with history which must be a sacred thing for a buff, am I right?

True. I know it happened a certain way, and this one changed them. Not that it's a bad movie, just too imporbable for a history buff like me to accept.

I first watched it on video--on our brand new TV at the time--with my brother and Dad.
My Dad spent a good amount of it telling us about the historical events surrounding the events in the movie.

I do watch sequels to movies I like and often they're OK but never as good as the original. The exception was Rocky where the sequel was IMHO much better than the original. (Rocky II that is, where his character was more developed...III and IV were cartoonish and I didn't bother with V.)
