I saw some clips from the shows in question that were filmed for the release, and despite the crappy quality of the recordings, it seemed like a fun time so it might be worth it to pick it up, especially as it comes with audio CDs which I'm really interested in.

Finally have something new for you, I think you'll be enjoyed by it: After a successful world tour of more than 100 concerts all over the globe in support of their latest CD, "Tinnitus Sanctus", German melodic metallers EDGUY have entered the studio to begin recording a new album. Still under the influence of their arena tour as special guests of the SCORPIONS and the latest AVANTASIA world trek (featuring EDGUY's Tobias Sammet and Felix Bohnke), the members of EDGUY feel it's time they squeeze their energy on tape in a recording studio again. This time the band has chosen the famous Peppermint Park studio (SCORPIONS, PHIL COLLINS) in Hannover, which is described by the group as "a recording temple with a tremendously great-sounding room."
Commented Tobias: "We have chosen the Peppermint Park to record the basics there. I had done a few little bits and pieces for AVANTASIA there, but it's so great to record drums and stuff like Hammond B3 with a big bad fat mean Leslie there. The room is big and the sound is mean!
"We were always striving for a powerful but natural sound. I guess we had a good sound recently, but I think there is always room to improve.
"The more I listen to what's going on in the heavy metal world these days, the more I long for drums that sound like drums. I want them to sound powerful without sounding like Atari.
"Sascha and I came to the conclusion that we have to start from scratch and do things the way they have to be done, not the fashionable way. I don't want a distorted master copy, just so it is loud enough on an iPhone or on PC speakers.
"If you talk to your most fancy producer, he will say something like, 'Well, it's the sign of the times, you have to be able to compete in the loudness war...'
"What the fuck?! If I want it to be loud, I turn up the stereo. I want dynamics, room, a real big sound, not that distorted trendy compression.
"Why don't we all move back a little and record great-sounding music, not loud-sounding music?
"Do a Google search for 'loudness war' and you'll see what I mean.
"Whatever.
"The new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we'll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it's not kitsch.
"When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it's a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well.
"To cut a long story a little insignificantly shorter: I just think it is great, and that's what counts. Real music, you know?"Read more HERE.

And as a sort of follow-up to that post: German melodic metallers EDGUY have set "Age Of The Joker" as the title of their new album, due in August via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Peppermint Park studio (SCORPIONS, PHIL COLLINS) in Hannover, which was previously described by the group as "a recording temple with a tremendously great-sounding room."
Regarding the band's forthcoming album, EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet recently said, "The new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we'll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it's not kitsch.

Tell me, slayrrr - are you still as excited about Edguy's new releases as, say, three or four years ago? I'm asking because myself I kinda drifted away from the band after the so-so Tinnitus Sanctus album. I mean, I'm still going to give the new CD a listen and then will decide whether to buy it or not, but up until Rocket Ride I were buying anything Edguy without a second of hesitation.

Honestly, not as much. I'd say Rocket Ride was their last good album like you said, but most of the stuff after that has been really weak and much too Hard Rock for my tastes. I think he's doing too many collaborations with his heroes (not that I'm blaming him, if I had that kind of career I'd be doing it too) but I think he needs to go back to Theater of Salvation, Mandrake and Hellfire Club and see what made them good (the up-tempo anthems, not the brooding slower-paced dirges he's been putting out for the last couple of years) before I go back to that without-hesitation act I was doing with their earlier efforts.

My thoughts exactly! I liked the new Avantasia albums but they sure as hell weren't as much of an epiphany as The Metal Opera! Also, I love hard rock, but there are many musicians who are better at composing this type of music than Tobias. He used to be a genius POWER METAL composer and he should go back to the roots, yeah.

Yeah. If you go through my genre rankings for the past decade, Avantasia and Edguy were always up in the top 5 (I gave the best-of-the-year for Hellfire Club in 04 as well) so they were both a really great double act, yet it seemed like he was doing a bit slower stuff when he did Scarecrow, which started all the Hard Rock influences into the music. I grew up with that stuff so it's not a big deal for me, but when I put on Hellfire Club, or even Mandrake, and then do one of the last Avantasia albums, there's a discernible lack of quality between the two.
To me, it seems like he's afraid of the faster stuff because he thinks he can't sing them live, I think that's the problem so he's going to the more melodic, mid-tempo stuff that he knows he can sing, but I'm not saying for sure that's it. It's just a feeling I get.

Even though it's not something we're looking forward to, have a bit of an update on the Edguy album: German melodic metallers EDGUY will release their new album, "Age Of The Joker", in Europe on August 29 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Peppermint Park studio (SCORPIONS, PHIL COLLINS) in Hannover, which was previously described by the group as "a recording temple with a tremendously great-sounding room."
According to the French edition of Rock Hard magazine, which attended a media listening session of the album on May 28 at Peppermint Park, "Age Of The Joker" will feature the following track listing:
01. Robin Hood 02. Nobody's Hero 03. Rock Of Cashel 04. Pandora's Box 05. Breathe 06. Two Out Of Seven 07. Fire On The Downline 08. Behind The Gates To Midnight World
Regarding the band's forthcoming album, EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet recently said, "The new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we'll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it's not kitsch.
"When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it's a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well.

I think the following information should bear repeating along to a good friend: German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR have set "Unbreakable" as the title of their new album, due on January 20, 2012 via Frontiers Records. The band will enter House Of Music studios in Winterbach, Germany on Sunday, July 10 to begin recording the CD, which will be produced by PRIMAL FEAR bassist Mat Sinner and engineered by Achim Köhler (EDGUY, MASTERPLAN). Songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Give 'Em Hell", "And There Was Silence", "Where Angels Die", "Born Again" and "Strike".
Commented PRIMAL FEAR, "We've survived earthquakes and tornados. This is the story of all who tried to destroy us, are still trying or gave up."
PRIMAL FEAR recently asked fans to submit suggestions for the new CD title and received more than 500 responses.
The band will take a break from the recording sessions for its new album to play at Germany's Wacken Open Air and Geiselwind festivals in early August.
PRIMAL FEAR recently extended its deal with Frontiers Records for two more albums after releasing the last two CDs through the label — 2007's "New Religion" and 2009's "16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead!)". The band says, "Never change a winning team!"All the information about the release I posted above available HERE.

Primal Fear's "Unbreakable" didn't disappoint me at all - a really strong album in my opinion. Did you get it, slayrrr?
But I must say there's one album I just can't wait for now: Unisonic's "Ignition" that reunites Kiske and Hansen! The first single sounds lovely!

I don't get paid until Friday, so I'm stopping off after work and getting it then. The first single is killer, so I'm not going to be disappointed with it.

I've heard it a couple times now (I usually use a new album as my driving music when I go out, so I've gotten through it a couple times since I got it) and I have to say it's a bit of a confusing album for me. It's not as fast as they're usual stuff, but I love the return to more of a Nuclear Fire/Black Sun style Heavy Metal influence in the music. Killer rhythm section and Ralf is still one of the most underrated wailers in the genre, but even though it's not as full-speed-ahead as 16.6 was, it's definitely growing on me. It's barely February, but I'm looking at a Top 3 on the Year-End list, keeping in mind what's coming up later in the year.

Good to hear you like it! Yeah, it's not one of their fastest albums - and not one of their most melodic ones, either - but you can feel PF is one powerful machine on this one, nevertheless.
