VH with David Lee Roth was a great band! With Sammy Hagar, not so much.

Now, now, Heineken - in my very own personal subjective opinion Van Halen recorded the best - and heaviest! - albums in their career with Sammy, not Dave! For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge? That's a good VH album! Balance also had some great songs on it. Let me just repeat Livingdeadgirl's .

Sorry guys, but I grew up with Roth on vocals. VH with Hagar always seemed like Van Halen Lite. Too many keyboards, too many ballads & love songs. Their first single with Hagar was "Why Can't This Be Love?". Right then I thought, "Uh oh, what the hell is this crap?". I thought Right Now, Poundcake and Humans Being were pretty good, but VH couldn't top the stuff with Roth on vocals like And the Cradle Will Rock, Unchained, Atomic Punk, Mean Streets, Everybody Wants Some and on and on... Great, heavy songs. Sorry, but no amount of is convincing me otherwise. I do like a lot of pre-VH solo Sammy stuff, but I think VH mostly neutered him.

Sorry, but no amount of is convincing me otherwise. Ahh, okay, let it be. You grew up with Dave, we grew up with Sammy - that's the problem perhaps. But you are right about "Why Can't This Be Love"...

Technically, the best vocalist, yes. The songs sucked though. It's all about the songs. And the guy lasted one album. Didn't really stick around to create a new discography that could be adequately compared the other two guys.

I liked the Cherone album. No, I'm not just trying to piss off all of you, no. It wasn't exactly great but had some really good songs on it; I know that most people only remember Fire In The Hole (from Lethal Weapon 4 soundtrack) but I liked some other stuff from the album better.

Well, my sarcasm backfired.
I'm not a Van Halen fan, and I figured "hey, I can screw with these guys and say Cherone is the best! Hurr hurr hurrr!!!"
But instead of being all shocked and appalled, you went along with it and ruined my fun!
I don't know who to blame!!

You grew up with Dave, we grew up with Sammy - that's the problem perhaps. Well, actually I grew up w/ Dave on vocals too...I've just always prefered Sammy. Never been much of a Roth fan. But that's not to say I don't like some of the Roth-era VH tunes.

Okay, it's true VH with Dave were around when I was a kiddo - but I wasn't listening to them then. The first album I bought was F.U.C.K. and that's when I discovered I could enjoy their music. But they were never one of my favourite bands.
And Cherone really is a good vocalist - that's why we didn't catch your fooling with us, Quorth.

Eric Burden was the lead singer of The Animals. Before Bad Company, Paul Rodgers was in a band called, Free. Their biggest hit was "Alright Now". I know because a band I was in used to cover that song. Ask your mom if that's the band she's thinking of. She'll probably know the song too. After Bad Company, Paul Rodgers was in another band called The Firm, along with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. That's it. Thanks Heiney. Heard the song on the radio a few days ago, she knew it was him, but thanks for the confirmation. On this VH debate, some of the stuff I hear isn't too bad. Van Hager had some good songs, and he is a great singer, while the Van Halen era produced rawer, more metallic stuff. Tough choice, but I go with Van Halen, only because their songs Unchained, Hot for Teacher and Panama are among my non-Metal faves.
