"NTD" = New Thread Day. See Quorthon's thread in the "Off the Chest" section. ;D
According to the R & R Hall of Fame & Museum, their rules of induction are: Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist's contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
So, listed in this poll are 10 bands or artists who have not yet been inducted, but are elligible. The year in parenthesis after each artist's name is the year their first album was released. I chose ten major rock artists who have all been around a minimum of thirty years.
If it were up to you, who do you think is most deserving?

I voted Judas Priest, mainly because I believe Sabbath are probably guarenteed a place in there anyway.
Without Judas Priest and one that you forgot, Motorhead, Metal probably never would have sped up. And given birth to Thrash Metal.
They're that important!

I can't vote, all of them are worthy. Cop-out. Black Sabbath - that the old school shit right there. The problem there, from what I've heard, is that Ozzy keeps turning down the nomination because he doesn't believe that Rock music should have a Hall of Fame. They might not get inducted until Ozzy's dead. Without Judas Priest and one that you forgot, Motorhead, Metal probably never would have sped up. Didn't forget them, just chose not to include them, as I was trying to avoid turning this into an all-metal poll. Afterall, it's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame. Even so, most of the bands I did pick are in the hard rock/metal genre. I do think that Motorhead will eventually get in, but it'll probably take a while. Definitely not before Priest anyway. Personally, my pick is KISS. Never has a band sold so many records, had so many hit singles, performed so many sold-out shows, and influenced so many other bands and musicians, and still can't get any respect from the R & R Hall of Fame or the music media in general. Sure, they're merchandising whores, which is probably the main reason that the R&RHOF, has avoided them thus far, but their overall influence and status in the world of pop culture alone, (Who doesn't know who they are?) should've insured that they were inducted at least five years ago.

Decisions, decisions. Three names made me scratch my head here: Deep Purple, Cooper and Rush. Love all of them but had to choose Cooper: perhaps because he really IS his band, while with DP you always have to think about various vocalists and guitarists and with Rush - about various "stages" of their style (rock, synth, almost-metal). I'm not sure it's a reason enough to choose him out of the three, but something's gotta be, right?

There really should be a Metal Hall of Fame... Although, in Metal it would probably be better named "Kingdom of Gods." There are a lot of bands that carried incredible influence that was felt for years and only released a few albums. Venom and Possessed for instance. Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor--just for their infamy. Bathory. Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Obituary. The for Thrash Titans: Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica (OverKill the first "official" however). Yup, there's something else I'm gonna do when I win my millions of bucks.

I voted for KISS. Even though I know it'll never happen. I could see KISS being voted into the R&R Hall of Fame. They're probably waiting to see if the band really retired this time or not... How many going-away-tours can one band do??

Yeah, at least they're not trying to induct Cher...or has she already been inducted?
But if you wanna talk about going away tours and junk....

How many going-away-tours can one band do?? Depends on how much money they need. Look at The Eagles...they've done about 3 of those "Final" tours. Not that I'm complaining...I went to see them on two of them. ;D

I voted for KISS. Even though I know it'll never happen. Oh, I'm sure it'll happen someday. The R&R Hall of Fame will probably just wait until one or two of them are dead first so that it'll be bittersweet and they can't all enjoy it.

Well, looks like Ozzy finally gave in. Two of the bands in the poll are being inducted.
The following artists will be inducted at the Twenty-First Annual Induction Ceremony, which will be held Monday, March 13th 2006 in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel:
Black Sabbath – (Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward) Formed in Birmingham, England in 1968, Black Sabbath stands as the premier purveyors of heavy metal. Enormously influential, the group’s songs dealt with black magic, Satanism, apocalypse, death and destruction.
Blondie – (Clem Burke, Jimmy Destri, Nigel Harrison, Debbie Harry, Frank Infante, Chris Stein, Gary Valentine) Formed in New York City, Blondie is one of the most successful rock and roll bands to emerge from the late Seventies New Wave scene. Fronted by Debbie Harry, Blondie’s eclectic hit-making sound flirted with salsa, funk, disco, reggae and rap and their 1979 Parallel Lines record, featured the hit “Heart of Glass.”
Miles Davis – Miles Davis was one of the 20th Century’s most creative artists changing the sound of popular music many times in his six decade career. His musical experimentation beginning in the late 60’s created a fusion of jazz with rock and roll, soul, funk and hip hop.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Bob Burns, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Ed King, Billy Powell, Artimus Pyle, Gary Rossington, Ronnie Van Zant, Leon Wilkeson) Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed Southern Rock groups of the 1970’s. Their distinctive triple-lead guitar sound made their songs “Freebird,” and “Sweet Home Alabama” American anthems and staples of FM radio.
Sex Pistols – (Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, Johnny Rotten, Sid Vicious) Over the course of their short and turbulent career, the Sex Pistols released a single album – Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols – that ranks as one of the most important rock records ever released. The album changed the course of rock and roll kicking the British punk movement into high gear.
