You know what I'm talking about, when you listen to them you just think "What the fuck is going on?" It's interesting music but just odd.
I'd have to give the award to The Talking Heads. It's just so...odd.

I always think that when I hear System of a Down. I know I'm gonna catch some grief around here for that statement...

Steve Vai's Flex-able was such an album for me: "This a guitar master?!" I thought -- and then came to love the strangeness of it.

EWwwwwwwww, love Steve Vai! Like you, the first couple of times I listened to him I was like ehhhhhhh, but the more I listened, the more I liked!

I'm with you about Vai, then! His latest album is pretty good, too, with one or two tracks much in the Flex-able vein.

I haven't heard any of his new stuff lately..but back in the day I listened to him constantly. Along with Yngwie Malmsteen (I know I mangled the spelling...), Randy Rhoads and all the other guitar gods back then.

Yeah, GWAR. When I first saw their pictures in a magazine some twenty years ago I thought these were screen shots from a horror movie not a band. Never listened to them much, though.

GWAR isn't scary, just damn good, offensive fun. But, I did think of another band for this thread:
Faith No More, or for that matter, anything with Mike Patton in it.

I always think that when I hear System of a Down. I know I'm gonna catch some grief around here for that statement... Not from me you're not. whenever System of a Down comes on the radio, I always say, "What the fuck??", just before I change the station. Their music and singer seem to be all over the place. It hurts my ears. No thanks. The Talking Heads may have been a "What the hell?" band, but they had some damn good songs. You Steve Vai fans should also check out Joe Satriani. Especially his record, "Surfing With the Alien". That's some good shit.

The Talking Heads are really "What the hell?" but they're a type of "What the hell?" that sucks you in. It's very much like a David Lynch movie.
