I voted for John. He is my favorite. I know he is Heineken's favorite too, so when we went to New York, we absolutely could not leave until we visited Strawberry Fields in Central Park. We walked around that part of Central Park in the dark for nearly an hour before we found it, but it was so worth it. We also went across the street and visited The Dakota, where Lennon lived and stood near the exact spot where he was murdered. Morbid, I know, but it was something we just had to do.

Yay! A new Beatles documentary on PBS. www.pbs.org/previews/thebeatles/BEST OF THE BEATLES is the untold story of the world's most famous band's formative years ' seen through the eyes of original Beatles drummer Pete Best. Viewers learn the facts about the Beatles' experiences in Liverpool and Hamburg at the time when the band redefined the vanguard. They also learn how it all went horribly wrong for the fifth Beatle, Pete Best, just as the Fab Four grasped the golden apple. BEST OF THE BEATLES airs on PBS Wednesday, September 28, 2005, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET. Check local listings.
For the first time, viewers will hear Pete's story, his pivotal role in forming the Beatles and how he survived a very public nightmare, all illustrated with a variety of music, archival material and interviews, some of which have never been seen before.
Pete's story reveals the unlikely chain of events that led to his becoming the drummer in the Beatles in the first place: his mum, the formidable Mona, pawned all her jewelry and placed a 33-to-one bet on a horse called "Never Say Die." The horse won. With her winnings, Mona bought her dream home, and sent Pete, his brothers and "friends" into the basement to socialize and play their music.
From this was born the Casbah Coffee Club, which became Beatles headquarters, an intimate space that each Beatle helped to create and paint. Thus the legend began - the wild revelry of playing the clubs on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg's red light district, the beginning of Beatlemania, recording for Polydor, establishing their authority as Liverpool's number one group by winning the Mersey Beat Poll, signing manager Brian Epstein, the Decca Records rejection, meeting George Martin, signing for Parlophone, recording "Love Me Do" at Abbey Road Studios, and finally Pete's dismissal from the Beatles.I personally cannot wait and have to now find some tapes and fire up that old VCR. I wonder what channel PBS is here though?

Yeah. You didn't miss much.
Basically it was Pete Best saying that he was kicked out of The Beatles because Paul McCartney was jealous of him. And he was responsible for The Beatles being great and everything. It was very biased and just...ugh.
You didn't miss much.

Yes. Everyone should listen to at least one John song, solo or Beatles, today in his memory. I know I will.
Peace.

Ah, alright. I will, too. Just got a Christmas compilation album with War Is Over. This ties nicely with the PEACE theme we've got here, too.

It was 39 years ago today that Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.
Today marks the 29th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, at least here in America. In England and I assume elsewhere it was yesterday.

"Paul, Ringo, Yoko Attend Debut Of Beatles Cirque Du Soleil Show Lennon, Harrison Also At Las Vegas Event"
LAS VEGAS -- The whole Beatles family turned out for the opening of the Beatles "Love" Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas on Friday -- even the fictional ones.
Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Julian Lennon, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison were there -- and so were Eleanor Rigby, Dr. Robert, Sgt. Pepper and The Walrus.
The show takes the Beatles songs, parts of songs and unpublished outtakes and sets them to the Cirque du Soleil experience, with acrobats, dancers and lots of color.
Dr. Robert comes out with a teapot in his hand, while Eleanor Rigby drags her things behind her like a bag lady.
McCartney said the remixed music is great and, as he put it, "It's Cirque du Soleil, man."
Ono said her only regret is that John Lennon wasn't there because he would've enjoyed it.
Famed Beatles producer George Martin, who helped produce "Love," had a different idea.
Martin said Lennon would have said, "Yeah, but it could be better."
He said that Lennon was never satisfied with anything that he ever did.
