I was one of the newbees to Modest Mouse, because I had first heard of them on MTV with Float On (when you're stuck in New Mexico for the summer, there really isn't anything else to watch besides cartoons, music videos, and Comedy Central). I went out and got Good News... then went out and got everything else, and I just loved everything that they did (with a few exceptions).
Anyone else here like Modest Mouse? If so, what's your favorite album?
Personally, The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon and Antarctica are really, really good.

What type of music do they play, Pulpmariachi? I don't even have MTV right now, so I wouldn't know...

Yes, I like Modest Mouse.
I spent my last pennies on Good News but I love the song Worms vs. Birds off the album before, the name of which I forget.
I have a few friends who like Modest Mouse but more people should get into them... they're amazing. And they're kind of indie sort of I'd say. Difficult to classify.

It's hard to categorize Modest Mouse. Basically, they're indie rock. Some call them emo-rock but others don't. The best explanation for them that I've heard was: "Space aliens come down to play rock music."
That album you're thinking of is Sad Sappy Sucker, which is considered to be their "lost" first album, but I don't know. Birds vs. Worms is on there.
Good News is great, but their older stuff is a lot better. I think.

Can I get mp3's with their music somewhere? I mean, do they have an internet site with some samples?

I love Pink Floyd. They're my personal favorite band. I mean, just listen to Dark Side of the Moon, how can you disagree with that? Same goes for Wish You Were Here. I found a copy of Dark Side of the Moon on record at the Flea Market and it's fun just to listen to it there.
Sorry, this really got off-topic.

I actually have a few of their albums on vinyl records. Yes, I'm that old! Yes, I've got the CD versions as well. Floyd was an awesome band. Glad to hear you like 'em too.

Sorry, but I'm an old man. Pink Floyd rocks!! ;D Well, I must be an old woman then b/c The Floyd is the shit. ;D My brother has most of their albums on vinyl too...he's a die-hard fanatic. Don't worry Pulp, Floyd is never off-topic around here...at least in my opinion.

Took me some time, hell yeah, but I finally got myself a Modest Mouse: The Moon And Antarctica. A good album, it is, though that's not the music I usually lose my mind for; however, one must admire the energy and rage that sleeps somewhere close underneath all those sounds.
Will try to search for some more of their stuff.
