From Yahoo News:
LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Pop-punk band Green Day scored its first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop charts on Wednesday with "American Idiot," the group's fifth studio set and its first release in four years.
The Reprise Records album sold 267,000 copies its first week in stores, marking the band's biggest week ever commercially, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Green Day entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 4 with 2000's "Warning," which sold 156,000 copies in the first week and boasts a tally of 1 million to do date. Collectively, the band has sold 14 million units since its 1989 debut for independent label Lookout.
Been a fan of these guys for awhile... Kinda anxious to hear this new one.

Used to like them, too, back in the days of my youth. The only problem with Green Day is that after listening to any of their previous albums for five times or so, not a hidden note remains there to be discovered during future listenings.

From Yahoo News:
BEATLES PHOTOGRAPHS STOLEN... LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Reuters) - A collection of early photographs of the Beatles intended for the Clinton Presidential Library has been stolen from the car of George Harrison's sister in a smash-and-grab robbery, police said.
The photographs and some Beatles lyrics were in a briefcase stolen on Sunday when the thief smashed the window of Lou Harrison's locked car, which was parked in downtown Little Rock several blocks from the Clinton library.
"There's no indication the thief or thieves had any idea what was in the case," said Sgt. Terry Hastings of the Little Rock Police Department.
"They may already have thrown it away, not recognizing what the material was or what it could be worth."
Lou Harrison drove to Little Rock from her home in Illinois to donate the material to the archive of former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites), who considers the Beatles second only to Elvis Presley among his greatest musical influences.
"It is precious to me obviously because I don't have my brother in person," Harrison told Little Rock television station KTHV.
George Harrison, the Beatles' legendary lead guitarist whose compositions with the group included "Taxman," "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something," died of cancer in Los Angeles in December 2001.
His sister said she felt the stolen items should be in the Clinton library, which opens next month, because of the former president's fondness for the legendary British musicians.
"I feel that, really, Clinton is the Beatle president," Harrison said. "I thought maybe if I could house them at the Clinton library, they could be on display, that all the Beatle people could enjoy seeing them."
With Harrison's death, there are now two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney (news) and Ringo Starr (news). John Lennon was shot dead by a deranged fan in 1980.
Skip Rutherford, president of the Clinton Presidential Foundation, which is overseeing construction of the Library, said Harrison was able to donate several other pieces of memorabilia. These including a record album signed by all four of the Beatles in 1964, when the group was in the U.S. for a storied appearance on the Ed Sullivan television program.
"We've expressed personal regrets for the theft, but it was a random act," Rutherford said. "That doesn't help much, but it could have happened anywhere at any time."
Rutherford said Harrison would be an honored guest when the Clinton Library formally opens on Nov. 18.

Anthrax: The Greater Of Two Evils Recorded “live” in the studio over the course of two days, THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS stands out, as guitarist Scott Ian puts it, “As a raw, balls out, and in your face representation of how brutal this band is, was, and will always be.”
Covering their history from 1984 – 1990, THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS is made up of fourteen classic ANTHRAX songs the fans demanded by way of the thousands of votes from all over the world received on the band’s official website, anthrax.com. Based on those votes, the band entered Avatar studios in NYC one cold and snowy weekend last winter and took a trip back in time to revisit songs from their formative releases Fistful Of Metal(1984), Spreading The Disease(1985), Among The Living(1987), State Of Euphoria(1988), and Persistence Of Time(1990).
That just has to be super-cool! Tracklist: 1. Deathrider 2. Metal Thrashing Mad 3. Caught In A Mosh 4. A.I.R. 5. Among The Living 6. Keep It In The Family 7. Indians 8. Madhouse 9. Panic 10. I Am The Law 11. Belly Of The Beast 12. N.F.L. 13. Be All End All 14. Gung-Ho Deathrider and A.I.R. excite me most here - very underrated songs! (from http://www.anthrax.com)

So, let me see if I've got this straight. Anthrax went into the studio and rerecorded a bunch of their old songs, but with "new" lead singer John Bush on vocals? Of course, he's not really "new" anymore, as he's been in the band for many years now, but he didn't sing on those first several albums. Have I got that right??

You got it very right, Heineken. And as a word of explanation: I'm one of those Anthrax fans who love Bush's vocals and since Sound Of White Noise was released wanted to hear him singing all the old stuff, too. This CD will only give me a sample of how this would sound, but it is still like part of my dream coming true.
And Belladonna? Why, I'd love to hear him sing all the songs from Sound Of White Noise to We've Come For You All, too!

I like the idea then. Even though I liked Joey Belladonna when he was in the band, I think John Bush can sing circles around him. It was like a whole new, better band when he joined. Should be interesting to hear.

From Yahoo News:
Street named for AC/DC... MELBOURNE (Billboard) - AC/DC formed in Sydney in 1974, but it's the Australian city of Melbourne that has honored the veteran hard rock band with its own street.
On Oct. 1, Melbourne City Council renamed Corporation Lane in the city center ACDC Lane, at a ceremony attended by 500 fans. A bagpiper played the 1975 track "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)" at the festivities, while local bands played other AC/DC material for five hours in a nearby bar. Recording commitments prevented the band from attending, but guitarist Angus Young sent a message: "Melbourne was our stomping ground in the early days. If you could make it in Melbourne, you could make it anywhere else in the world."
Present at the ceremony were Fifa Riccobono, CEO of AC/DC's Australian label, Albert Productions, and TV presenter Ian "Molly" Meldrum, an early supporter of the band.
The council debated the name change for several months, and it proceeded despite local protests from a restaurant and a Christian group.

From Yahoo News:
LONDON (Reuters) - Pirated versions of U2's new album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" have emerged on Internet file-sharing networks two weeks before it goes on sale, throwing into question its official release date.
A London spokeswoman for the band on Monday would only say that U2 was aware of the illicit copies, but that no decision had yet been made on changing the release date.
The Irish rock band has been due to release the album on Nov. 22 in Europe and the following day in the United States. It is the first studio album in four years for the band signed to Island Records, a unit of Universal Music (EAUG.PA).
Earlier this summer, a tape containing rough tracks from the upcoming album went missing from a studio in Nice, France where the band was recording. At the time, the band said it might move the release date if the tracks appear online first.
The online appearance of unsanctioned versions of an album before the official release has dogged many music acts.
Record labels fight back by sending copy-proof promotional copies to radio stations and journalists, and hiring firms to flood file-sharing networks with "spoof" tracks with poor sound quality, which crowd out better-sounding pirated versions.
"With any major release, the record companies start about a week in advance flooding the networks. That way users are more likely to download a spoofed copy," said Jim Graham, a spokesman for California-based online piracy tracking firm BayTSP.
"But over time, the pirated versions win out. It's very cat and mouse. It's like the cold war," he added.
In the past month, release dates for American rap artist Eminem (news - web sites) and hip-hop star Snoop Dogg, both signed to Universal's Interscope Records, has been pushed forward by a few days due to the appearance of pirated tracks online.

MOTLEY CRUE REUNITING FOR TOUR...
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Motley Crue, the hard-living Los Angeles heavy metal band that symbolized rock'n'roll excess in the 1980s, is reuniting for a world tour beginning next February in Florida, it announced on Monday.
The foursome's original members last played together six years ago, when drummer Tommy Lee (news) -- embroiled in domestic difficulties with then-wife Pamela Anderson (news - web sites) -- quit to form a short-lived side project.
Vocalist Vince Neil (news), bassist Nikki Sixx (news) and guitarist Mick Mars briefly continued with other drummers, before pulling the plug a few years ago. The hiatus marked the end of a two-decade run that produced hits like "Dr. Feelgood," "Kickstart My Heart" and "Girls Girls Girls," as well as enough debauchery to fill a book: the band's 2001 memoir "The Dirt" (co-written with journalist Neil Strauss).
"For as much as it's like 'Wow! This is like the ultimate rollercoaster ride in life' it was kinda nice to get off that for a little while. But I'm jonesin' for the thrill now," Sixx told Reuters ahead of a Hollywood news conference where the reunion was officially announced.
The first leg of the tour, taking in North American arenas, will begin on Feb. 17 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Even though 2004 was a dismal year for touring and Motley Crue's last few jaunts were not exactly hot tickets, Sixx was confident the band had the goods to bring the fans in.
"We wanna be louder, we wanna be f
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- n' ruder. We want more, more, more. That's f -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- n' Motley Crue style," Sixx said. "We're back in ... It's gonna freak you out. Trust me, no one's seen anything like this in years."
The tour will coincide with a new 2-CD hits album, "Red, White & Crue" (Island Def Jam/Universal), despite a flood of similar Motley Crue compilations in recent years. The new release will include several songs the band has recently recorded, including the newly released single, "If I Die Tomorrow."
Now that's some killer news!! ;D

DICK CLARK SUFFERS MINOR STROKE...
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Longtime "American Bandstand" host and rock music pioneer Dick Clark has suffered a stroke and is being treated at a Los Angeles area hospital, a spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
"He did have a minor stroke and he's in the hospital for that reason but he'll be fine," spokeswoman Amy Streibel told Reuters.
Often called "America's oldest teenager" because of his youthful appearance and dedication to rock music, Clark suffered the stroke earlier this week.
The 75-year-old, who has for three decades hosted "New Year's Rockin' Eve" from New York City each Dec. 31, said in a brief written statement that he planned to be back at work in time for this year's show.
"The doctors tell me I should be back in the swing of things before too long so I'm hopeful to be able to make it to Times Square to help lead the country in bringing in the New Year once again," he said.

Former Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell (Darrell Lance Abbott) playing on stage in Columbus, Ohio with his new band Damageplan, was shot and killed when a "fan" jumped on stage, grabbed him and shot him several times at point blank range. A total of five people died, including the shooter who was shot and killed by a police officer. Hmm, not even safe on stage playing for your fans.
