Ah, yes - 'Imagine'; I prefer Ozzy Osbourne's version of it, thinly disguised behind a different title ('Dreamer').
But 'Creep'? Why not like 'Creep' mightyalgo?

Arrgh! Shouldn't have mentioned it. Imagine is pap. Plain and simple. Sorry to cause any offence to anyone, but it would not be remembered so fondly if things had worked out differently for its writer. Creep is the boys trying to be something they weren't, and come on, even they hate it. It sucks that much. So pretentious and self important. YUCK! These are only opinions, but they are the right ones. Yessss.... Time to be flamed... Algo

You're not talking about the John Lennon "Imagine", are you? That was an EXCELLENT song!

I like the song, but not just b/c John Lennon was killed. I like it for what it is, for the message. "But 'Creep'? Why not like 'Creep' mightyalgo?" Which Creep are we talking about? I know about 3 different songs w/ that title.

Er.. Imagine is the John Lennon version, just didn't like it. Sorry. Am expected to be flamed, but I am entitled to my opinions. Creep is the Radiohead song about how hard it is to be a teenager or whatever. I promised myself I'd wait until I was in double figures on posts before I pissed anyone off, as well.

Well, you don't like it, that doesn't really bother me. I guess people are entitled to their own opinions, but to say it's only remembered because John Lennon died, that's a pretty bold statement... If you don't want to start a flame war, you can simply admit you don't like it. But there are some horrible songs out there there, and whether you like Imagine or not, it does not belong in the same list with, say, the Macarena and the Ketchup Song.

IMAGINE by John Lennon. One of the worst songs ever? Ooookaaaayyy..... Obviously, you're entitled to your opinion, but when I think of all the other "true" garbage music that's been released over the years, how anyone can say that with a straight face is beyond me. Just wanna add, that song was very popular long before Lennon was killed. The fact that his life ended the way it did, I think only added to Lennon's legend & the song's popularity. On a related note. I recently spent a week in New York, and one of the places I just had to see was the Dakota. The famous apartment building where John & Yoko lived, (She still lives there.) and Lennon was shot & killed in front of. It may sound a little morbid to some, but it helped make the incident a little more "real" for me and bring a kind of closure to the whole thing. It was a moving experience for me.

Creep is the Radiohead song about how hard it is to be a teenager or whatever. Ok, I know which song you're talking about now. I don't think the song is AWFUL, but it was a victim of overplay here when it came out so I kinda got sick of hearing it.

I'm not a fan of either 'Imagine' or John Lennon or The Beatles, but yeah - it's definitely not the worst song on earth. I have no problem understanding why so many people love it so much, and Lennon's death doesn't seem to have anything to do with it.
No need to argue over this, guys. We all stated our points of view already - let's just move on. Let's beat the shit out of 'Ketchup Song' for a change, shall we?

Don't be fooled by its beat or catchiness, the Ketchup song is outright awful. They tried to make it the modern day Macarena, and obviously failed miserably.
And their chorus is gibberish! The song may be Spanish, but the chorus is gibberish. It means nothing in Spanish, it means nothing in English. It's gibberish. Ugh.

oops, all my words are meant as light hearted banter. apologies for this whole thing.
I think a novelty record has no pretensions about what the point of it all is - it's about making money. I think what's worse is a record that everyone who made it takes very, very seriously indeed.
Prime examples of this include Marky Mark, Vanilla Ice and their ilk. Pretension is the mother of all rubbish. There is so much more of it these days now that image is everything. For example - all this hip hop emphasis on Scarface as a great example of how to live? I've never seen a movie as blatantly negative about gangster lifestyles.
Never mind. I' recommend a quick listen to The Streets instead. It's much easier to relate to.
I was not trying to imply Imagine is one of the worst songs ever, merely letting my impulsiveness get the better of me. Just never liked it and have never understood the almost religious significance attributed to it. Wasn't Lennon saying we shouldn't put anything on a pedestal in one of the verses? Never mind, it's just my opinion, as one insightful poster puts it. Sorry. End of war.
Lets never, as they say, speak of it again.

Dude, if you want some real novelty music, listen to Weird Al Yankovic. Otherwise, we have novelty music that just gets annoying.
