Stardust (2007)
A romantic and funny fairy tale that was much better than I was expecting. It was pretty much a blind buy for me, but I am glad it is a part of my collection.
7.5/10

Defiance (2008, Edward Zwick)
Very well-made. All the technical aspects of this film were perfect. In fact, the only real issue I had with it was one portion of the climax that was way too similar to another scene in Saving Private Ryan. But other than that, great cinematography, acting, and writing make this another underappreciated war epic by Edward Zwick. 9/10
Infernal Affairs (2002, Wai-keung Lau; Siu Fai Mak)
Netflix sent me this two months ago and I never found the time to watch it until last night. Ever since watching the Departed, I've been wanting to catch the original. The original was very well-made, but I think Scorsese and Monahan improved upon the source material. But I give these guys credit for coming up with such a complex story - improvement could not have been an easy task. 9/10

Then She Found Me (2007) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 7/10 HD Audio dts-HDMA - 8/10
Helen Hunt stars & directs this. After her husband of 1 day dumps her she runs into a stream of bad luck. Ultimately she is looking for Mr. right while she gets acquainted with the mother she never knew. Good for a rental, nothing more.
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1992) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10
Vintage Steven kicking ass on a train this time.
The Fall (2006) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 10/10 HD Audio Dolby TrueHD - 9/10
David Finch co-directed this with Spike Jones. One of the better films of 2006. This one reminded me a bit of an American version of Pan's Labyrinth. Wouldn't call this one a must see like the DVD case suggests but one for rent for sure.
How the West Was Won (1962) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10 HD Audio Dolby TrueHD - 8/10
Watched the SMIleBox version. Kinda tricks the eye watching this as it gives a 3D depth to the entire image. Its cool that they can now do this but I'd prefer they do it on shorter length films as I was actually becoming a bit dizzy. The film is boring as hell imo.

Night Watch (2006) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 8/10 HD Audio dts-HDMA - 10/10
Russian version of UnderWorld in my opinion. Maybe I'm getting old cause the effects in this one are top notch or look high budget. It is a FOX searchlight film. I watched the trailer for this one which explains a trilogy. Well I have Day Watch & have no clue what the third title is called.
Meet Dave (2008) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 7/10 HD Audio dts-HDMA - 9/10
Funnier than the reviews I've read. I liked the Star Trek theme rip off during the film. ;D

Well I have Day Watch & have no clue what the third title is called. The third film will either be called Dusk Watch or Twilight Watch.....but not sure when (or if) its going to made. Seems to have been put on hold for awhile. Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) Okay this is a tough one. Because well, this movie was pretty much made for people that think "a horror rock opera about organ repossession starring Anthony Head, Bill Moseley and Sarah Brightman....that sounds AWESOME!" And I am one of those people. So I loved it. I loved it despite its flaws. Some of the casting is wrong, some of the writing is wrong, and some of the music/lyrics....yes, some of it is wrong. Occasionally it just tries way too hard. I can totally see why someone would absolutely hate this movie. Yet somehow.....its very entertaining; its unique, it has some great visuals and its bold. At times its rather gleefully disgusting. Despite comparisons to The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Sweeney Todd, this film has a feel all of its own. And it would be worth watching if only for Anthony Head, Sarah Brightman and Terrance Zdunich as the Graverobber. But if you don't appreciate horror (the gory AND the campy) or musicals, you won't find much to like here. Even if you like both horror movies and musicals, this might completely miss the mark for you (you might in fact find it to be a bit of a gothic nightmare and not in a good way). But if you are one of the people I mentioned above, you may just have a great time. I sure did. 8/10 I just came in, read this again because I forgot to mention something I wanted to, and realized for some reason, my spelling was completely atrocious when I wrote this.... So I apologize to anyone that read it before...LOL.

It's a pleasure to have you here Raina. ;D Watched a couple of days ago: GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK (2005) George Clooney's take on how CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) and his producer Fred Friendly (Clooney) took a stand and challenged Senator Joe McCarthy and his Communist witchhunt in 1953. Well made, acted and directed, but the material's a bit dry for my taste. Don't regret seeing it, but not something I would probably rewatch. 6/10

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10 HD Audio LPCM - 10/10
Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) (Blu-Ray)

Enjoyed the first film/vol better but the second one has a better transfer. The first film has a bit too much DNR applied near the beginning, otherwise flawless.

GRAN TORINO (2008)
Clint Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, a Korean War veteran, recent widower and grumpy, racist old man who doesn't get along with his family, his Hmong neighbors, or pretty much anybody. When his prized possession, a mint condition 1972 Gran Torino, is almost stolen by a neighbor Hmong teenager, under pressure from his cousin's gang, Kowalski takes the kid under his wing. He soon learns to enjoy his company, even teaching him, what Kowalski feels, are the things it takes to be a man, and eventually starts spending time with the boy's family. The threat of continuing gang violence eventually leads Kowalski to take a stand. Eastwood gives a funny and touching performance in what is rumored to be his last on-screen appearance. Unfortunately, the performances of the supporting cast of Hmong actors aren't quite up to Eastwood's level and a couple of scenes are almost undermined because of them, but this is Eastwood's movie through and through and when he's on screen you're barely paying attention to anyone else anyway. The weak supporting performances didn't take away too much from my overall enjoyment of the film. The film isn't as powerful as Eastwood's directing/starring turns in UNFORGIVEN or MILLION DOLLAR BABY, but if this does turn out to be Eastwood's last time on screen, I think he's gone out with a bang.
8/10

I think this is a first. Someone on a message board, any message board, apologizing for poor spelling. It's a pleasure to have you here Raina. ;D Haha...Thanks. ;D Mirrors (2008) This is a remake of a Korean horror film called Into the Mirror, a movie I haven't seen because I can't find it. Which bugs me, I wanted to watch it first. But alas...... Ben Carson (Kiefer Sutherland) is an ex-cop with a drinking problem which started after a shooting that ruined his career as an officer. He wants his wife and his children back, so he is working on the drinking problem and his various other issues. He decides to take a job as a night security guard at a department store that shut down years ago due to a tragic fire that killed and wounded many years before. The mirrors in the store start to play with his head a bit, he sees visions of victims of the fire and a few other weird things. But soon, his own reflection starts to haunt him, and then he and his whole family are in danger from whoever or whatever it is that is trapped in the mirrors. And oh yeah, it can apparently move freely through any mirror, or just about any surface you can see your own reflection. First of all, the good: it has a pretty good look overall, the direction is fine, some of the effects are pretty good (some not so much). And I always find Kiefer Sutherland likeable, even when he is kind of coming across as a raving lunatic. Which in this movie, where WE know he isn't crazy, he still comes across that way at times. He doesn't always help himself. But the movie is just not good enough in other areas to make up for the fact that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. That can be fine when done well (I've seen a whole lot of Italian horror and Asian horror that I have loved that doesn't always piece together very easily), here it just gave me a bit of a headache. They seemed to be making it up as they went along. Not seeing the original, I don't know how it compares.....but it doesn't really matter. The plot holes are huge, the explanation for whats happening is a mess, and its just not consistent. I also found it kind of amusing people were just so darn helpful to an ex-cop who may or may not be insane. Information just seemed to come so easily to this guy, considering all of this had to be going on for what.....oh, 50 years or so and no one else was so successful....but I guess he is just that good..... Pretty much a mess, but if you aren't expecting much, and can throw logic out the window, maybe worth a watch. 5/10

1408-It was basically an hour and a half of a man going insane with a bunch of gags that were just lame (the ringing phone, tilting pictures on the wall or the voice mail messages) failed to generate interest (that walk along the building edge should've been better, as should the conversation to the refrigerator shelf, and I'm not making that up) to a few redeeming moments (the mirror-movements across the hallway was the only half-decent one in here) that just left the whole thing feeling dull and boring. Should've been much shorter as well, but then it would just've been a short, boring film anyway. 1/10
