I figured there was enough tech-guys on here to help me out with a little problem I've been having.
I noticed it yesterday, and it's continuing on this morning, where my TV turns on, the screen appears then it fades to black like it's turned off, despite the monitor indicating that there's still power there. All my other electronics work fine, but it's just the TV. It's not that old, barely five or six years old and it started doing this. I've turned off the power strip and turned it back on, I've let it sit and tried it again, but I keep getting the same situation again and again.
Is there anything I can do about this to fix it? I would greatly appreciate any and all help on this.

Don't know how, but my TV set is working now, so I'll be able to get back into it this month and catch up on what I missed.

Glad we could help. ;D BTW, what kind of tv is it? I had a similar problem not that long ago and we ended up having to get it repaired. We have a rear-projection tv.

I don't know the official version of it, but it's a Magnavox. I'm guessing it's a 26 or 28 incher, as the screen is pretty big, and I'm pretty sure it's HD-capable although I don't have it hooked up for that.

Another spell of bad news for me and my TV:
Yesterday morning, after I had came on here, a blackout occurred in my area, there was something around 15 blocks or more who had lost power and it managed to knock out power for well into the night, finally coming on around 2:00 this morning.
Unfortunately, what happened was that my TV was on (I was watching a movie for the Movie Genre requirements) and the surge when it happened had completely killed off my TV. I can't even get it to come on right now, and I spent all morning trying to find out why and it seems that I blew out one of the lights needed to power the screen, or something like that, I can't really understand what it read but apparently, my TV is, for all intents and purposes, dead.
That means that, until I can get it fixed (they say repairs cost around 2-3 weeks) I won't be able to watch or see anything. That means I must drop out of the Movie Genre for this month (a real shame as I was starting to get a couple good ones coming up that I had wanted to see) as well as missing out on all the films I usually watch, so until further notice, my reviewing will be put on hold until it comes back (the ones I've seen so far will be put up when they're passed, but it's only two or three so I don't know if I really should) and at least can follow my shows online if need be. Obviously, my explaining this to all of you means that I can access the internet and all, so it's not a problem on that end, but until further notice, I won't be able to see any new movies for awhile.

Well, that sucks, man!
Make sure that it's a problem worth fixing before you start putting too much money into it. Sometimes it's better to just spring for a new tv, if you can afford to, than to keep investing in an old one that's going to keep giving you problems.
Either way, good luck!

I never thought of that. Repairs and parts run about $500 (the final bill to replace it came out to about $560) and I admit I'm not that well-versed in technology as some of you others. Would a new TV be in that range that was at least halfway worthwhile. The one that broke was about a 27-inch version.

DUDE!! Do NOT pay $560 to repair a 27" tv! That's a waste of money. For about the same price you can buy a brand new flat screen in the same size! You might even be able to get something a little larger.
Do you have a Circuit City near you? They just filed for bankruptcy and are closing a bunch of stores, so they're probably having all kinds of sales right now. If not, try a Best Buy or Costco or Sam's Club or Walmart, etc. Check out some of those stores websites to do a little comparison shopping. The economy is sucking right now, retail sales are down, and Christmas is coming. Now is the time for you to get a great deal on a brand new tv.
Just my 2ยข.

Well, I have some good news on this front. I spent the last few days shopping online for a new TV, and I have finally picked one out: I don't remember the full name, but it's a 28-inch HD model from Toshiba. It's not a true flat screen, there's a base for it to be mounted onto, but it's only about 4 inches thick, a far cry from my old model which was about 2 feet, maybe more. It's about 40 bucks less than what it would've cost to replace my old one, so I'm thankful for that, and it should be up and ready to go by the end of the week, and can hopefully sneak in some stuff before the end of the month; if not, I'll just wait until December to get back into my routine. I'm just finally glad I have a new TV.

Finally, some great news here: I finally have my new TV in, installed and hooked up. It's finally in, and I can finally, at long last, get back into my normal routine. It'll be hard now seeing as how I went for so long without doing what I usually do, so it might be somewhat of a struggle to do so, but I can finally get it started again and will be able to join you guys back on the board.
