With so many that have been done already and so many currently in different stages of development, I thought we could use this thread for rumours about upcoming films based on TV series. For instance, Michael Mann is looking to bring his 80's cop show MIAMI VICE to the big screen, possibly starring Jamie Foxx as Tubbs & Colin Farrell as Crocket. Burt Reynolds & Willie Nelson are in talks to co-star in the DUKES OF HAZARD as Boss Hogg & Uncle Jessie. And Nicole Kidman is starring in the upcoming BEWITCHED. So out of the ones that have been done already and are listed above, which was your favorite? For the record, in case you were wondering, I didn't count movies that were big screen spinoffs of the TV series starring the same actors, ie: STAR TREK, THE X-FILES, BATMAN (60's version), etc. Nor did I count live-action movies based on animated series, ie: THE FLINTSTONES, SCOOBY-DOO, etc. (They're going in a separate poll.) I'm gonna go with THE UNTOUCHABLES. Love that movie! Even though the series was before my time and though I knew of it, I never really watched it, even in reruns. I think the cast and story are great, and the direction by DePalma is fantastic. I don't think Sean Connery has ever been better than he was in this movie. He's tough as nails, "What are you prepared to do?", and his death scene is heartbreaking. THE FUGITIVE starring Harrison Ford & Tommy Lee Jones would be my second choice. Great action/chase movie. Which one did you like?

Two Brian De Palma movies in the poll and I'm voting for one directed by Andrew "The Hack" Davis! Crazy! Seriously though: both The Untouchables and Mission: Impossible are fine movies, but they don't belong to the group of my De Palma favourites. The Fugitive, on the other hand, is Davis' greatest fluke ever; hell: it's one of the greatest flukes in the history of cinema! Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are perfect in their roles, and the script is as thrilling as it gets. By the way - I haven't yet seen Starsky And Hutch but the rest movies in the poll I quite liked, too. Yeah, even Charlie's Angels.

The Fugitive gets my vote. Didn't know The Untouchables was based on a tv series.

This was a really hard choice for me between The Fugitive & The Untouchables. But I went w/ The Untouchables for the all the reasons stated above so I won't repeat them. The Fugitive would be second, good movie, good plot & you can never go wrong w/ Tommy Lee Jones! I'm really looking forward to the Dukes of Hazzard movie, esp. w/ the additions of Burt & Willie to the cast. Still not sure about Jessica Simpson as Daisy though...

Didn't know The Untouchables was based on a tv series. Loosely based. The original tv series starred Robert Stack as Elliot Ness and was loosely based on real life events. For the kids in the audience, Elliot Ness & Al Capone were real guys. And Prohibition really happened too. Yes Bart, I'm shocked with your choice. I thought for sure, one of the DePalma movies would be your pick. I love THE FUGITIVE, but yeah, I agree it was kind of a fluke for director, Andrew Davis. He also directed UNDER SIEGE, Steven Seagals' biggest hit. Unfortunately, I hate Steven Seagal. Still haven't seen STARSKY & HUTCH, but I am interested in seeing it. Hated CHARLIE'S ANGLES and only put it in the poll because it was really successful.

I went with The Fugitive as well because I had actually watched reruns of the old TV show. Untouchables was great, but since I didn't watch the show I can't say I could pick it. I hate most TV-to-Screen movies though: I always see them and then think "why did I see that?!?"
One I did like (second on my list) was The Addams Family because I love the old show so much, and I loved that "Thing," the hand, was able to run around. Plus the casting was great!

I thought ADDAMS FAMILY was very underrated. Funny movie, true to the series and you're right, the cast was fantastic. I especially liked Raul Julia as Gomez and Christina Ricci as Wednesday. Both were very good in their roles. I keep thinking about picking up the DVD, but I just know that the minute I do they'll announce a special edition with Anamorphic Widescreen, 5.1 audio and a whole second disc of extras.

Hey, time to bring an old thread back from the dead! So, I wonder if KOTTER is going to take place in the 70's like the old show. Will Ice Cube sport an afro and mustache like Gabe Kaplan did in the original?? Will he tell bad vaudeville jokes to his wife?? So many questions to ponder. Now, I can get behind the idea of Alba in that Jeannie costume. ;D

No offense taken. I assumed you were being sarcastic, so I was being sarcastic back. If you vote in this poll though, we can always do another one later on to include all the tv-based movies that have been/will be released since these. ;D

And then I voted for Maverick.
I remember liking that movie.

I'm not being sarcastic here: saw preview of Miami Vice today and it looks like a TV-series big screen adap to rule'em all!

Who's playing the leads (Crockett & Tubs)? I haven't really heard much about this one yet.
