Everyone loves "B. Christmas" and I fail to se why. Take out Margot Kidder and you have a run of the mill almost murder free TV thriller. And I also fail to see why it's called a slasher...as the what..one/two deaths involve no slashing. Lame as hell ending as well.

For me "Black Christmas" works as a genuinely creepy horror classic.Bob Clark managed to create a startling atmosphere of total dread and fear.Personally this film scared me more than John Carpenter's "Halloween". PS I checked your website and it's brilliant.Great work!

PS I checked your website and it's brilliant.Great work! I've been telling 42nd the same thing since I first saw it - he's just TOO good! Make sure you read the review for Don't Go In The Woods there, Embalmer: even though I can't agree that the movie's any good, 42nd's description of it always cracks me up! Oh yes: my favourite slasher movies. You won't mind my more mainstream choices and narrowing the list to Top 5, will you, guys? Here goes: 1. A Nightmare On Elm Street 2. Trauma 3. H20 4. Intruder 5. Jason Lives A Nightmare as well as Trauma may be 'not very slasher' to some but they ARE slashers to me. Just wanted you to know.

Ahhh...too kind chaps...Too kind. I must admit it was a few years ago since I saw "BC", but the only thing I found interesting was Margot Kidder who is on great form. I like the idea of the finale (nice 'n' bleak) but the VERY end just leaves me unsatisfied. Oh well, I promise to check it out again as you have been so nice to me site! That's love that is! ;D

I don't think I can come up w/ ten, but here's what I have:
1. Friday the 13th 2. Halloween 3. Freddy vs. Jason 4. Prom Night 5. Shocker 6. Trick or Treat
maybe the last two technically aren't slashers, but hey they're close enough! ;D

I can't believe no one's mentioned the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE yet. Isn't it considered a "classic" of the genre?? I can't even come up with 10 titles as I'm not a big slasher fan, but here's a few I liked or at least thought were okay:
1. HALLOWEEN 2. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 3. FREDDY VS. JASON 4. NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 3: DREAM WARRIORS 5. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 6. NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 4: DREAM MASTER 7. FRIDAY THE 13TH

"I can't believe no one's mentioned the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE yet" How the hell could I have forgotten that one. Well, riding in a car for 6 hours yesterday kinda shut my brain down & it hasn't fully recovered yet, but yeah, that one would def. be on my list!

I've never thought of "TCM" as a slasher film. It does not play like one imho.
Not a huge fan of 'Slashers' as the basic design of them is too formula and restrictive.
But 10 that have tweaked my nipples are (American only as they make the 'pure' Slasher film...and in no order)
"Don't Go in the Woods" "Madman" "My Bloody Valentine" "Scream" "Friday 13th 4" "Hell Night" "Halloween" "Slaughterhouse" "The Prowler" (purely for the FX/Murder set-ups) "Slumber Party Massacre"
I would say "Maniac" as well...But again, I have never thought of that as a 'Slasher' film. It in no way plays like one. It's far more a 'Psycho character study' (as well as super nasty and sleazy latter day Grindhouse flick) as it solely concentrates on the killer.

"Slumber Party Massacre"...is that the one where the killer has the corkscrew drill thing on the end of a guitar or something like that? I watched so many of these back in the day that I get them mixed up sometimes. But unless I'm just totally losing it, which is entirely possible, I remember watching the one w/ the corkscrew about a million times. ;D

That's "Slumber Party Massacre" 2 or 3 with the guitar (never seen it)..the first is simply a loon with a huge drill.

I've never thought of "TCM" as a slasher film. It does not play like one imho. It's sure different than the usual slasher movies and it being or not being a movie of this subgenre is still a controversial issue. However, don't forget that it did end up in HorrorSpeak's Top 10 Slasher Movies, 42nd! The Prowler, on the other hand... a very good slasher but a very boring MOVIE: I decided against voting for it in my Top Ten here but... well... it's a classic and Savini's job is top-notch in it.

Well, without getting into sub genres and sub-sub genres, I'm gonna keep on regarding "TCM" as a "slasher" seeing as how it's often regarded as the movie that spawned HALLOWEEN and it's ilk.

Yeah, that's what I do all the time - don't give too much shit about the thin lines between all the horror subgenres. No one will ever convince me that I shouldn't mention 28 Days Later during a zombie discussion, for instance.
