We can do this, can't we? I mean - choose The Board's ten favourite reviews out of the many we already have in Review Hell? Just take one more, long look at what you've been reading here since the very first days of the section - and make your choices. Then send me your Top 10 in a private message, so I can count the votes.
Rules: - no one votes for their own reviews (but the wives and friends CAN vote for your stuff, why not), - you HAVE TO send me your Top 10 in order for your own reviews to be included in the contest, - don't send your votes before the end of 2005 - all reviews that make it to the section before the end of the year should be considered potential winners, - the deadline is, let's say, January 5th - then I'm starting to count the votes and present the winners one by one, - no real prizes will be given but the ten best reviews will bear a special logo from then on.
Points:
#1 - 8 points #2 - 7 points #3 - 7 points #4 - 5 points #5 - 5 points #6 - 4 points #7 - 4 points #8 - 3 points #9 - 3 points #10 - 2 points
Don't like the idea? Tell me why. Want to make some changes in the rules? Tell me what changes these should be.

That sounds like a plan, Bart. I was just thinking of something along those lines recently--but since Slayrr and I dominate the Review Hell, I wasn't sure...
Now, will it be for the best reviews written in 2005, or the best for the films from 2005?
There probably aren't enough of the latter.
Everyone should write up some excellent reviews in the next two weeks!! I've just been trying to add in some more non-horror reviews to fight off that oversaturation.

Slayrrr votes for all Quorthons reviews & Quorthon votes for all Slayrrr reviews. ;D
Not a bad idea Bart. Q's got a good point. Should we choose the reviews that were only written in 2005 or every review sinse its "Review Hell" creation?

The Review Hell was only opened up in 2005, I think. I joined late last year and suggested it shortly after. So, pretty much everything in here (save for a few extremely old reviews) would've been done in 2005.
And I won't just vote Slayrrr reviews (sorry man), but the other review of AvP that cropped up in that thread gets my first vote. I forgot who did it, though.

That'd be Heineken, I think. Which leads us to another thing: in some threads there are more reviews than just one - you can vote for whichever you like better, just make sure you put the name of the author in your Top Ten.
All reviews from Review Hell can be chosen for your lists, not just reviews of 2005 films.

Got my ten ready to be PM'ed to ya Bart. BUT will wait till the beginning of the year like you said above. Most films I picked were films I was interested in seeing & knew nothing about.

Good, good.
But we need more people to have their say about this. If somebody doesn't like the idea - tell us about it and vote in the poll, too!

uh...i'm too lazy to vote. is that ok? I like everyone's reviews anyway, I read just about them all and I really enjoy them all. I would say lets give all the hardworking reviewers a pat on the back and that be it.
BUT I'm too lazy to write a lengthy review to begin with......so I was just throwing in why I hadn't submitted anything.

That's... well... that's honest at least. It's not a problem, of course. I realize some people may be totally against the idea of doing this - after all, reviews are our expression of love or hatred towards a film and some of you may think that praising REVIEWS is not the most natural thing to do. Cool, then. But, you know, I just thought that this little competition here will let us GO BACK to the earliest reviews on The Board, get to know them better, have some more fun with them. AND I was also curious which movies can win here, sure - having as many reviews as we already have (and it's been just one year!) it may turn out that the votes are all over place and I want to see if this happens or if there's some pattern to it all. Especially since the voters are allowed to be as subjective as they can in their choices.

It's an okay idea, but honestly, I don't know that I'll be able to find the time to go back and reread so many reviews and then vote on them and then submit them. Some of you apparently have alot more time to do this kind of thing than I do. I'll try, but can't make any promises.

But really, you don't have to READ all our reviews once again, Heineken. Just look at what we have there, think about which ten reviews did something to you, put them in order and voila - you have it.
Reading carefully the 180 reviews would be the perfect situation, of course, but I know it's impossible and I'm also interested in your instinctive reaction - choosing them like that would mean that the reviews got locked in your memory somehow.
And, you know - we're not trying to make the ultimate Top 10 here, meaning that the winning reviews have to be written with perfect spelling, coherence, without spoilers and so on. No - we're just choosing the most MEMORABLE reviews. And memorable for whatever reason - just be it memorable in a good way.
Who's next to join the fun?

I've got a top 5 so far, need to spend more time finding out the others. Who knows, a new review may pop up that I may like a lot.
And yes, four of the five are horror films, but I did find one more surprise one that I think you all are going to be surprised at.

I'm thinking of a few, but won't chisel it in stone until after the first.
